The General Store Eatery

 If you're ever visiting in Des Moines Iowa you must go to the Valley Junction area. It boast over 150 shops and restaurants there.  Please be sure to wear your tennies though, because it will take a while to get through it all. But believe me, it is well worth it!
My favorite eating spot there is "The General Store Eatery". It offers a simple choice of sandwiches, salads and the yummiest desserts. The service is fast and the atmosphere seems to transport one back in time!






The very, very best part of the whole dining experience is sharing coveted time with my dear and precious daughter!


It's always hard to leave her and her little family to come back home. Where would we be today without the phone or e-mail? I can't imagine what it was like for mothers before there invention. Can you? Do any of you ladies have daughter living far away too?

    Oh yes, without email and phone we'd be missing them terribly. Both our daughters lived in Texas until our oldest and her family moved here last year. Amy and family are at Dallas and we don't see them very often. They will be here next week so we are making big plans! That place looks right up my alley!

    Looks like a charming place. I live far from My Mom too. It is not easy, but sometimes in life you have to do it for the best interest and future of your family. I do not think my Mom will ever get over it, it has been 15 years and I still hear about it LOL. I do talk to her almost everyday though. Thanks for sharing with my newbie party.     It is so nice that you got to spend time with your lovely daughter. All our family is in Portland Oregon across the Columbia River from Vancouver where our home is...only problem with that is, we are rarely there, but up at the Little House 4 hrs. drive away because of hubbies work. Daughter and I are on the phone often through out the day and I do make the trip down every few weeks.

    I understand totally! All three of our children moved away from home so we travel pretty often visiting them. Two of them are in Texas, so not too far, but our youngest daughter is in Kansas City which is about a 14 hour drive. Actually we are leaving to visit tomorrow! Yes, e-mail and cell phones are awesome!!

    My dear daughter lives 3 hours away and that's too far! I'm with you, I can't imagine what mother's of old went through when a child moved far away... Hurrah for technology! And you won't be hearing me say that often. ;)

    Your daughter is beautiful. The best part is when mom and daughter enjoy each others' company.

    My daughter has been living within 2-1/2 hours of home, but is leaving the middle of July for Thailand and South Korea for a year. Sob. My son and grandchildren live two days away. We only get to see them about once a year. (Husband and son are self-employed, so neither can just up and leave. And, we both live in places one can't fly to.)
