Say 'hello' to Bernardin, Mason, Atlas, Kerr, Presto and Ball. All faithful and reliable friends for over 30 years. They are the kind of friends that always give, but never take. They only thing they ever ask of me is that I bathe them once a year and provide them a soft place to lay their heads until I require their help again. But I'm not one to take advantage of my friends so I, in turn, fill them with warm sustenance and buy each one a shiny new hat every year!
On occasion, one of them cracks-like today. But I understand that not everyone can take the stress that comes with their job-the extreme pressure, the heat, the many months of darkness, being shut away wondering 'will I be the one she chooses tonight?' And then the disappointment when it's not you. Yes, it is a tough life. But they know I appreciate them and will care for however long they are in my home and until they depart my company. After all, isn't that what one expects of a true friend?
I know I've shared a similar photo with you, but I just couldn't resist taking this picture of the lake today. It was 72 and sunny-so lovely! There's certainly no maples or any other trees with fall foliage along the lakes edge, is there? It's all evergreens here.
And this was tonight's sunset! I believe we are experiencing our Indian summer now .The weatherman says sunshine for the next four days and in the mid-high 70's here. Canadian
Thanksgiving on Monday sounds like a very promising day. I'm thinking we should maybe grill the turkey! Wouldn't you?
Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends and Happy Columbus Day to my US ones!
It would be lovely for you to have a warm and sunny Thanksgiving. That's what we usually have here on the coast, or perhaps some rain - either way it's a great day!
ReplyDeletecute post about your canning jars.
ReplyDeletethe lake looks lovely. We just had 2 days of a hard freeze and now for the columbus weekend we may get to the 80's crazy weather for sure.
Cathy
I haven't canned for a couple of years but still have all my jars..you just never know! The lake looks gorgeous...that is my goal next summer..to spend a lot of time by the water...would be quite different for this desert gal.
ReplyDeleteYour jars are talking today and my dog did my post! Beautiful jars of tomatoes, all set for winter... let the snow commence! Looks like upper midwest is in for a lot of it this year. We are in the market for a snowblower after last winters multiple snows. The lake is just gorgeous, I love the evergreens, who needs trees that change color when you have sunsets like that!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it a relief when all the canning is done? I am always thankful for the food all winter long, but it is a long, tiresome process. Congrats!!
ReplyDeleteAh, you've been working hard doing all that canning, but you'll enjoy it this winter. Such a beautiful view---I'd be taking pictures of it all the time! :-) Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI just love the look of rows of canned fruits and vegtables. It's hard work but it shows the promise of some tasty days ahead. Your lake photos are gorgeous,(I would be out there all the time taking pictures) we are supposed to have temps in the upper 70's this weekend, should be great weather to spend some time outdoors
ReplyDeleteYou have captured the essence of summer with your beautiful canning jar picture. You should be so proud. The lake pictures were stunning. Happy Thanksgiving. I wish we neighbors could celebrate it all at the same time. Will you be cooking up a huge meal?
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the jars and hearing the clink of the lids sealing..I can picture you looking at them and smiling like I do every time. - You photos are beautiful as usual, I bet you don't ever get tired of the beauty. Have a great weekend my friend. xo
ReplyDeleteI have never canned but if I did I hope it would be such a personal thing:)
ReplyDeleteWe are in the UP and it is supposed to be in the 80's today! Unbelievable weather for here...and MyHero packed all "cool weather clothes". I told him, "Don't sweat it!".....he did NOT think that was funny.....sheeeze-men~;>) xo Diana
ReplyDeleteLove seeing all of that fabulous home canned goodness!
ReplyDeleteAnd I must admit... early October is way too early to have to cook a turkey, the weather isn't always cooperative unlike the American late November... and if your son plays hockey... there is ALWAYS a season opening tournament to contend with!
And I must say, American Thanksgiving... well it's the only holiday us Americans have done "right" since we not only get a four day weekend, but we kick off the holiday shopping season too :)

I never tire of your lake pictures. So beautiful! I noticed on my calendar today that it said Canadian Thanksgiving. Do you celebrate it similarly to our Thanksgiving here in November?
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful sight! Food "put up" for the winter! :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd your surroundings photos are simply lovely. Enjoy your patch of special weather. I'm doing the same, here with our abundant sunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. :-)
And how lucky are Canadian friends, to have Thanksgiving now. Instead of so late in Nov. as it is, in the US.
Gentle hugs,
"Auntie"
"On the motionless branches of some trees, autumn berries hung like clusters of coral beads,
as in those fabled orchards where the fruits were jewels..."
- Charles Dickens
Thanks for cute post/making me smile! Hey-you could deep fry the turkey. Honest--try cajun seasoning. Blessings
ReplyDeleteI love your clever story about the jars! I have many jars from my old canning days. Don't know quite why I keep them, because I'll probably not can again. You never know, tho! Happy Thanksgiving Monday! Your photos are beautiful, love the sunset at the lake!
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to can, but never have. How wonderful I think it would be. Your pictures of the lake are just GORGEOUS!! Have a wonderful week-end! HUGS
ReplyDeleteHi.. just found your blog, and I'm so glad I did!
ReplyDeleteI am now a follower, and looking forward to reading all your posts :)
I love the fact that you appreciate your old canning jars. I feel the same way...they are like old friends.
I'm always happy to get them out at harvest time, and if I give them away, it's always so nice to have folks bring them back to me.
I've been canning up mouthwatering green tomato and apple chutney. Love to see those canning jars filled with goodness.
Have a great weekend.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteYour bounty is beautiful and your friends are all gorgeous! I froze my tomatoes this year, they come off of the vine by twos and got eaten each time.:)
What lake is that? It is certainly beautiful and the sunset is also very beautiful!
Hugs, Cindy
I still have some jars that I got the first year I was married and did my own canning. I have noticed though they are the ones that might crack now. I love jars and I love seeing them filled with good things to eat. Yours looks like fall. It just looks beautiful on your lake.
ReplyDeleteSo do the trees and the sunset. Do you celebrate both Thanksgivings? I think my boys would really like that.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Goodness I almost felt sorry for the jars LOL, you can post those lake pictures anytime, they are gorgeous! Thank you for your sweet congrats, it means to much to me
ReplyDeleteCarol
Look at all your beautiful jars full to the brim of hard work and yummy :-)
ReplyDeleteLove seeing all your bounty. Can't tell whether it is marinara sauce or applesauce. We've canned alot this fall-I love it!!! Also have frozen lots of corn and beans.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend.
Noreen
Whew!
ReplyDeleteYou have some great looking friends!
Thanks for the lake picture, it's wonderful.
Happy Thanksgiving!
What a big task accomplished! So satisfying to know that the jars are filled and the pantry, too.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful photos of the lake. "My" lake is a rocky shore, too, so I love the shoreline there. Show all the photos of the lake that you want!
Love your sentiment with the canning jars! I don't do any myself but my son who is newly married has learned how to can tomatoes already! His new bride and their family always do a bulk canning every year. We're having the Indian Summer too, we've hit the low 80's and the nights are gorgeous! Your pictures of the lake are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo...HAPPY Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteOh my look at your canning! My last batch was very small but I still had fun with old friends. The lake pictures are stunning as usual. You do live in beauty! Love the mittens from the last post - you are so clever! Have a great day!
