Well, if you live in Canada you know that winter is near when your satelite carrier begins
showing the fireplace log. For those of you who don't live here I'll explain. There are two
satelite channels that have a flame very similar to the one above, that are on the air 24/7.
There is no music, just the crackling of logs burning. However, the logs never burn down
as mine do in my woodstove. They stay the same size and emit the very same crackling sound.
Over and over and over again. That same crackling sound. That same picture!
Although I know this would be far more economical then the wood that disappears so quickly
in my stove, it just doesn't seem to have that same warm, homey feel that I get from my old
Regency wood burner.
This is a photo of me reflected in the glass door of our woodstove. Can you
see my hands? But back to the TV fire logs. Are you a person that would enjoy watching the flame burning on a TV screen? My DH and I used to
laugh about the thought of anyone doing this. Then last year we were invited to a friends home
for a pre-Christmas gathering and they had the TV fire log burning! It was one of those moments when
you and your hubby catch one anothers eye across the room and know precisesly what the other one is thinking!! And then quickly look away so you don't start giggling like some elementary
school age child would. Not my DH, of course, just me. I'm silly like that. Oh, I hope I haven't offended anyone out there. Really! If you do like to watch this particular fireplace please make a comment and tell me how it brings enjoyment to you. Then I'll understand!
I don't have a fireplace in my house so I would probably be one that would enjoy looking at the virtual logs burning now and then..lol
ReplyDeleteAcyually, a TV station here in the US does a 24 hour "Yule Log" program beginning Christmas Eve, with Chrsitmas music playing in the background. I've put it on some years to listen to the music. :)
We were laughing about the 'fire channel' last night, as my husband found it and made a big show of scooting his chair up the the warmth of the 'fire'!
ReplyDeleteI do not believe our cable has the fireplace. I think if it didn't have music I would not turn it on. We to have had the woodstove going. Snow and cold here just not ready
ReplyDeleteCathy
Hi.. I guess if the fireplace had music I might have it on but we kind of enjoy our own woodfire.. What made me laugh is that hubby and I have done the same thing in other situations and like yourselves he wouldn't laugh but yes.. I would.. grin..
ReplyDeleteBlessings..
How funny! I haven't seen that here but I kind of like the snap, crackle, pop of a REAL fire myself. I guess if they were using it as a backdrop to add atmosphere it was okay...but I would have snickered out loud and "got caught" by someone asking me what I was laughing about.

Haha! We don't have this on our TV, and I wouldn't watch it if we did. Sounds kind of crazy to me. :-D
ReplyDeleteHi Kimberly! Thanks for the very sweet comment over at my blog, and I certainly like the looks of yours, so I think I'll be subscribing so I can follow along. :) As for the fire... you know its too funny becuase last year at Christmastime my husband, as a joke, downloaded a 30 minute fireplace video for us to watch on our tv. But we liked it so much we kept it and now i put it on all th time, especially in the early morning when it sdark and cold and Im up at before dawn reading my bible- its nice to have the crackling sound and glow of a fireplace to keep you feeling warm and cozy, even if its fake! :)
ReplyDeleteGod Bless,
nicole
I don't have a tv, so I haven't tried it, but no, I don't think I would get much enjoyment out of that. But...I do have an electric fireplace and although it does not crackle, I do enjoy watching the flames. I would much prefer a real fire in my fireplace, but I've never taken the time to get my chimney inspected. So, the electric fire is the next best thing. It does not crackle, but it does put out lots of heat.

How funny! Hey it works and you get the gist. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe have a woodstove too. We don't get any channels on our tv, so no fire burning screen for us!
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean, the first time someone told me you could watch that on TV I thought they were joking.
ReplyDeleteOr the time my cousin grabbed the remote control and started one in her fireplace. All fake at the click of a button.
No, I prefer real log fires.
We have a wood stove and I love it.
I did ask for a fire pit so we could sit outside and watch it burn.
There is something nice about being outside around a camp fire.
So I am with you. I do find that to be so funny, kind of like watching fireworks on TV
Have a great rest of the day.
We don't have access to the fireplace channel here but I do have one of those fireplace videos I can put in and it has the choice of just the flames licking the logs or the flames and Christmas music!! I have used it twice in the past! A big hit. LOL
ReplyDeleteThose cable fires are a bit silly... at least I think so... lol!
ReplyDeleteWe have a local cable channel that has a camera pointed toward the Gastineau Channel (the body of water between Douglas Island and the mainland). It is, of course, called the "Channel Channel"!
ReplyDeleteMy dad couldn't sleep without the TV on, so I think this would be a nice alternative to late night tv. I would have turned it on when I lived in tiny apartments without a fireplace, had it been an option :)
ReplyDeleteOh too funny. We have a station that plays the "yule log" with Christmas music but just on Christmas morning.
ReplyDeleteWe heat by wood! But, I would love to have that channel :)
ReplyDeleteI hope your weekend was great!!!
xo, misha
Oh, that is so funny! Yep, I was at a Christmas party last year here in Orlando and the 42" screen was burning a log!! I think it was a burning log DVD! LOL
ReplyDeleteCarol
I don't know if our cable does that...Ive not seen it, but I know what you mean about sharing a secret joke/laugh! lol~ Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving :)
