When I was twelve years old my folks built a new house and I chose pink walls and red
carpeting for my bedroom. It sounds bizarre, but it was cute. Above is one of the two
white rugs my mother bought for the floor. It had a fringe around it, but over the years
it began unraveling and rotting. So I cut it off. It wasn't very pretty after that. I saw a
rug very similar recently on another blog where someone had crocheted a scalloped
edge around the rug.
It was so much fun making these scallops. And it turned out just the way I had hoped it
would. I really don't have many things that I've saved from my childhood, and had I realized
years ago this was stuck in an old box, it probably wouldn't have been here either. It's silly
but this rug brings me joy whenever I look at it. One, because of all the memories attached
to it from my teens years at home, and secondly because it's the first time I've ever tried my
hand at scalloping and it actually turned out not looking too bad.
Simple pleasures-Sometimes we find them where we least expect them!
Today I'm partying with:

Hi Kimberly!

ReplyDeleteYou did such a nice job on the scallop, doesn't it finish it off nice?! How fun that you still have that rug from when you where young and those type of rugs last forever. I have several and never hesitate to pick them up at the thrift shops. xo
ReplyDeleteI love seeing pieces that have a history to them. How wonderful that you have something to decorate with from your childhood home. You did a great job in finding a creative way to rescue it to use now. Thanks for sharing your sweet story on my party!
ReplyDeleteWonderful rescue! I recently found some little treasures that had been in my childhood bedroom. They'd be packed away for years. I put them right out on the bookshelf where they really belong.
ReplyDeleteSimple pleasures really are the best.
ReplyDeleteI had a red rug kind of like that in my bedroom as a teenager, it had a fringe. My comforter had red and pink roses on it. Wonderful memory!
Hugs, Cindy
What a great looking border! Wonderful work. I had dusty pink carpeting and walls in my teenage room with a white bedspread and shams. I loved that room. My father had a job, though, covering the pink before they sold the house many years later.
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea!
