Small Talk

Small Talk

I don't often do a post, friends, where I chitty chat or just shoot the breeze with you.
But today this will be such a post.
Why?
Because, as much as I hate to admit it, my mind is sort of blank of anything that seems very interesting to share.

Do any of you care that I watched these three movies last week and want to know how I would rate them?
You do!
Okay, great, now I have something I can talk to you about...

Let's start with Kidnapped-Five Stars
The acting and the scenery where both superb. I had seen it before many years ago and was glad that this version of Robert Louis Stevenson's novel was as good as  I had remembered it.

Jane Eyre-Four Stars
This was a good enough watch, but it just didn't live up to my all time favourite version, starring Ciaran Hines as Mr. Rochester and Samantha Morton as Jane Eyre.
The 1997 version of Charlotte Bronte's novel will always be the true 'Jane Eyre' for me.

Under The Greenwood Tree-Three and a Half Stars
This was enjoyable enough...
And I didn't consider it to be a waste of my time.
But I found it to be a bit too cheesy for me.

Tim and I also watched several You tube movies this past week:
Two newer Miss Marple movies starring Julia McKenzie-I like her in this role.
Joan Hickson is my number one favourite Miss Marple, of course.

We watched a couple of the older Poirot movies.
You would think I would have them memorised as many times as I've seen all of the Poirot programs and movies, but I've found I don't remember every detail.
Thank goodness, so I still enjoyed them.

And lastly, on the lighter side, we've been watching our Mr. Ed DVDs.
Oh my gosh, I had forgotten how funny this show was.
I don't have to rate this for you, you already know how good it is, don't you?

Just so you know that I am not spending all of my evenings glued to the TV, I will be along real soon with a lamp project that I have been working on!

I bought a lamp shade much like the one above, and now I am rigging a dresser lamp to it to convert it in to a much needed swag light to hang over my reading area.
I think you'll like it...
I'll show you the finished product in a day or two.
Until then.....

  1. Ah yes, I like those old movies too, although I don't think I've seen the 1997 version of Jane Eyre. I'll have to check my stash and see. And since I love to watch movies based on recommendations from friends, I'll check out the others for a re-watch also. I LOVE period dramas, period. :-))

We got wrapped up in the characters of course and now wonder how they are getting on! lol It's so hard to find really good things to watch. We end up watching our own DVDs...over and over again! Thanks for the reviews! And I love your project! Looks good!

  13. Hi Kimberly,

I also saw that version of 'Jane Eyre', and thought it was okay, but didn't compare to the very first version I had seen, which was a 2006 British miniseries, starring Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens.

Hmm. That lampshade project looks very interesting!

  14. I don't think I've seen any of these movies but they would be wonderful to watch I'm sure. They would all interest me. I love the lampshade frame used to display photos. That is a pretty cool idea! I hope you're having a great week.

  15. Well we have the same taste is movies. Only my favorite Jane version is the older one with Timothy Dalton which is from BBC 1983
I have been on a Poirot kick too.
I have never watched Midsummer Murders just because I was sort of afraid of it, in case it was too gory.
Anyway, I like your movies you watch.
Your lampshade is going to be wonderful.

  17. Old movies have none of the modern violence, give me " The Sound of Music" again and again. Last week I saw " Philomena" a very special dear friend gave me the DVD, and one early morning Hugh and I watched this, by the fire. Pure total enjoyment. Hugs, Jean.
