A New Adventure....

In reality this isn't really my motto for living life, but somehow it seems to be the path that I often find myself treading!
I wanted to let you know that beginning the first of April, Tim and I will be taking over management of a lodge 4-5 hours north of here.

It isn't a lodge that is located in the wilderness this time, but sits at the edge of a small northern community of Ontario.
This means I will have easy access to the grocery store, variety store, the library, Dr's and hospital (heaven forbid I need them) and other amenities I currently have had to drive 45 minutes to reach now.

Because it is situated so far north, the woods, the lakes, waterfalls, and wildlife are just outside my back door! So I don't feel I'm having to give up any of the comforts that are so dear to me here.

We will have complete carte blanche in running it, so I'm pretty excited about doing some tweaking with the decorating. It has good bones, but just needs a woman touch added to it, I think!
I will continue blogging, of course. You know I'll be taking you along with me, just as I always have no matter where I roam.
You can help me out by giving me advice about what you're looking for when you travel and need a place to rest your head.
Until then I will be back with my usual blather of  my everyday nonsense!
Talk to you soon-Kimberly

  2. Wow, that sounds like an adventure in the making! Congratulations!

Oh gosh, I could probably write a book about good and bad things associated with lodging. Here are a few things that I particularly like, in no certain order: comfortable pillows and mattress, luggage racks (more than 1), plenty of electrical outlets, thorough housekeeping, easy to use alarm clock, wireless internet, ample room in bathroom for toiletries, blinds/drapes that actually close, helpful staff, availability of cold/hot drinks.

  3. That sounds exciting Kimberly! I'm sure you will have a wonderful time caring for this lodge and it's guests. I am with Donna above as far as suggestions go. But, I also like to see nice landscaping and flowers outside. When do you start? I wish you and Tim all the best and will look forward to seeing pictures of the place and surroundings. Blessings to you! Pam

In my head I counting all the communities on the northern Highway, our son lives and works in Nakina, just past Geralton and we have gone by lots of the little communities on the way up there! Is it near Terrace Bay? I wish you all the best on this now adventure!

  9. You are such a awesome lady to go do things that make me shake in my boots. I think it sounds like a wonderful opportunity. I can't wait to see where you will be and what it looks like.
Is this just for summer or long term. I wondered if you were going to go back to Alaska this year. It really does sound fantastic.

  11. Hi Kimberly, Wow what an adventure. I haven't been up in your neck of the woods but would love a chance to see it through your eyes. For me, when we've stayed at B&B's or small homes for tourists-one of the things I always need and often they don't have is food(bread treats etc)that is gluten free.
Can't wait to see your new area.
    Hugs, Noreen

  14. First of all, if it doesn't look good from the curb, I won't stop. So, make it pretty to look at from the road. Then cleanliness, cleanliness, cleanliness. Neat and organized check in area. Friendly folks. Working electrical outlets and WiFi. Pretty much the things that Dona referred to above. You two are very brave to take this on.

Oh, does this include supervision of food also? If so, whatever you serve make it GOOD. Don't have to try to serve a hundred things, but make the ones you do serve delicious.

  17. Hey girlfriend! It's not near Ear Falls is it? I used to date a guy that had a resort up that way and I'm old now so that makes him even older! Just curious! LOL!
I understand about the routine bit and I have to jump out of it once in awhile but on the whole at my age I am liking a routine to some extent. Otherwise I am all over the place! LOL! I think it was those 4 kids I had that did it to me! LOL!

  24. Your new lodge management job sounds very exciting! I wish it were in our direction, we could pop in for a visit and a stay, perhaps. The main thing that I'm looking for whenever I'm away from home is a very comfortable bed, a quiet room, a clean room and bath and delicious comfort foods. Well, the first couple are really the most important.
Please email me and tell me where you will be.
    Hugs, Cindy
