Monday with Murray
Let me introduce Murray to you.
Isn't he adorable?
I met Murray in the Walmart parking lot in Whitehorse, Yukon early this Spring.
I have to tell you that I was quite impressed with Murray as a driver.
I observed him for some time.
Why look at him here in one of the photos I snapped of him.
Observe how he is checking his side view mirror before he backs out of Walmart's parking spot.
Next Murray is checking his rear view mirror to be sure there is no one behind him.
I think the sun must have been reflecting in his eyes, because as you can see he is squinting!
I can report that Murray was successful in safely backing out his vehicle and driving off to who knows were.
We didn't get a chance to exchange addresses, so
if any of you have happen upon Murray, please let me know ......
I'd love to meet and chat with him again.
He was truly such a sweet fellow!

Now the results for my Window Woes:
#1 The Functional Window-10 likes
#2 The Pretty & Decorative Window-6 likes
And there were many who could not choose between the two.
I decided to combine the two. The top three panes I have covered with various prints of green scrap paper ( to match my curtains). And the bottom panes are chalk board, with the center one tin for magnets.
When my Sis comes to visit soon I'm sure she'll let me borrow her camera, so I'll get some photos for you then!

Window Woes
#1
My goodness, can you believe it's Friday already?
I, frankly, don't know where this week has gone.....
Other than getting the new curtains made, it doesn't seem that I've accomplished a whole lot of anything around here.
It was one of those weeks when I just allowed myself to become too distracted by outside circumstances, therefore not getting much accomplished at all.
#2
I'm in high hopes that my weekend will not be such a waste!
I have been wanting forever (it seemed like forever!) to find a window pane to hang on my wall. I've seen so many creative ways of finishing them, haven't you?
A couple of weeks ago, while rummaging around in our back lean to, I spotted an old window pane in front of a regular window but it had no glass in it.
Amazing!
There was my window pane I'd been wanting all this time right under my nose.
Well anyway, my husband removed it and I've spent a lot of time since trying to decide what to do with it.
I go back and forth between the two photo examples I have shown you.
I decided it's time to get your opinions!
This will be hanging on my kitchen wall, so keep that in mind when you chose.
Which one do you think will work best photo #1 or photo #2?
Hurry, ladies, and let me know so I can get this finished by Monday!
Have a good weekend-Kimberly

My Favorite Pastime Lately
My favourite pastime of late has been watching old (1938-1940's) Agatha Christie movies or listening to her mysteries read on tape.
I do both through youtube. They have a large selection of both.
Now I'm not just sitting while I do this.
Oh no, no, no...
Last week I finished the kitchen curtains that I had told you I was making. They turned out nicely.
I'm sorry I don't have any picture to share right now, but I will describe them to you at least.
The material is a large lime green buffalo check fabric. I made the curtains by the kitchen table long with ruffles and the curtain over the kitchen sink is a ruffled valance that's gathered vertically in two places.
I hope you can visualise that!!
This will be a true test in just how good my writing skills are now, right?
Then over the weekend I had my baking day. I do this every other weekend.
I like to get a weeks worth of baking done in one day.
This weekend I made Chicken Enchiladas, Meatloaf, a Bacon and Broccoli Quiche, Rhubarb Galette and Coconut Macaroons.
I realise that this isn't enough dishes to last a week, but I'm fortunate enough to have a husband who doesn't mind cooking also!
Since Tim's mother and sister are here visiting, we drove over to Lake Superior last Thursday.
You might remember these photos from last year when just Tim and I were there.
It was a gorgeous day this time around too!
We enjoyed climbing the rocks, searching for a few blueberries, and just soaking in the sun's rays while we visited.

On a more serious note; our daughter is going in for a small surgery on Wednesday.
I would so appreciate your prayers that all goes well and that she will have a quick recovery too.
Many thanks to all of you-Kimberly

Family Foto Friday
I know it wasn't that long ago that I shared photos of my middle son and his family, but these are newer ones taken by a photographer!
Little Brigam doesn't look like he's at all sure he is going to like this picture taking session, does he?
But he did come around in time!
Reece has this all down pat.
He is four, after all, and been at this a while longer.
Here Brigam is showing off his sweet smile.
I have tons more, but this photo of a proud Dad with his sons will be my last for today!
Have a great weekend....

How Not To Clean An Iron
It was only 52F here yesterday morning, really sort of Fall like weather to me.
And don't ask me why, but there is just something about those cooler temperatures that brings out the domestic side in me.
Does this mean that I was raring to drag out my ironing board and iron a basket full of clothes?
Oh my gosh, no!
But I was raring to start working on those kitchen curtains I had delayed sewing because of all of the lovely weather we'd been having; me preferring to laze out on my screened in porch reading the original Agatha Christie story, The Moving Finger instead.
But now back to my original thrust:
How Not To Clean an Iron
First, as I said already, I was in the mood to sew. I took one look at my iron and knew there was no way I was going to chance using it on any brand new fabric.
It wasn't completely covered with gunk, but it had a few places where the sticky no sew tape had gotten stuck on the iron and had turned it brown.
Stupidly in the past I have gone ahead and ironed without cleaning it first, and then ended up with brown on my fabric.
Very aggravating!!
Now I don't know about you, but I have tried all sorts of 'tried and true' solutions for cleaning an iron. Off the top of my head, wax paper and salt come to mind as one of those wonderful ways to clean your iron.
Nada!
This never worked for me.
Finally yesterday I found a new iron cleaning remedy on Pinterest. This particular lady had good results by dampening a rag with white vinegar and pressing the iron on the rag.
Guess what, I did too...
At least it made the shiny part of the irons base shinier, but it still didn't remove the brown gunk completely.
Then next she advised that a person should shake baking soda onto a cloth, then press the iron back and forth atop this.
I was apprehensive about this right off of the bat. It just made sense to me that all of those little steam holes might get clogged with baking soda.
They did!
So now I was banging my iron on a clean rag hoping to unclog the baking soda packed holes. This worked with only one hole remaining clogged. After trying a tooth pick and then my nut picker without success I just left it to eventually fall out on it's own (I hope).
Throughout all of this my husband is watching on the sidelines....
He keeps saying, "Just scrape it off."
"No, no, we can't do that it will scratch my iron," I respond.
Seeing nothing is working, and before I can protest, he grabs a flat paring knife from the kitchen drawer and scrapes the brown gunk from my iron completely off.
Problem solved!
I have a couple of scrape marks on my iron now.
But guess what?
It doesn't effect my ironing at all.
I have curtains half way finished now, with no worries of a stain ruining them from a dirty and sticky iron.
So all's well that ends well...

Camera Woes
Hi Friends!
I'm sure you've probably noticed I've been either showing photos taken from the past or making silly signs lately!
There is a reason for this...
Yes, my camera has bit the dust.
I bought this just two years ago on Amazon and I'm not sure if two years is a normal life span for a camera when one uses it nearly every day or I just got a lemon.
But whatever the case, I've decided that I'm not buying one this time without seeing it and talking to a camera salesperson first.
I live five hours from any store that sales cameras and since we just recently made the long trip, it may be a while until I get around to purchasing a new one.
I wanted to let you know what's going on so if you don't see me around as often you don't think I've quit blogging!
I'll still pop over to visit you, of course.
Blessings-Kimberly

Mom's Old Fashioned Cucumber Pickle Recipe
Do you like Pickled Refrigerator Cucumbers?
Every since I can remember these were mainstays in our summers refrigerator.
My Dad always had a big garden, so our summer table was blessed with plenty of fresh vegetables to feast on. Once the Cukes were on we knew Mom would be making her refrigerator pickles for us all to enjoy.
As you can see this recipe has been much used in my home as well over the years.
In order to preserve it in my Mom's original handwriting I covered it with clear plastic a couple of years ago.
It's hard to read with the camera's glare on it so I've typed it out for you here:
Cledia's Old Fashioned Cucumber Onion Pickle
1/2 cup vinegar
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
2 Tbsp. salad oil
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
2 small sized cucumber,
thinly sliced
1 onion, sliced
Combine and mix the first 6 ingredients in a sauce pan. Heat, stirring just until the sugar is dissolved.
Remove from the heat. Arrange cucumbers and onions in a covered refrigerator dish. Pour vinegar mix over the cucumber and onions, cover and refrigerate 4-6 hours before serving.
Hope you will enjoy this recipe as much as we do!!
I'm partying here today:
