A Few Inspiration Pieces

I am not able at this time to give you any photos of a room that is completed, because I don't have a single room that I've finished yet!
So I will give you a few photos of my inspiration pieces for  the living room and kitchen, then you can get an idea of where I'm going with my decorating theme.
This cabinet was left in the basement by the previous owner.
I have brought it into the kitchen and plan to paint it either white or a blue to match my porcelain bowl pictured above.
You can see how beautifully this one turned out
after it was painted.
I can only hope I can do as good a job with mine as this lady did with hers.
You've seen this before-I had it in my cabin kitchen.
Can you see again that pretty blue?
I think it's my favourite colour right now for the kitchen.
This is the fabric for our living room curtains.
It matches our leather couch perfectly.
This is an old plate that I had forgotten that I had.
Unpacking is a bit like Christmas in some ways-so many surprises from things you'd  forgotten that you had!
But then on the other hand, I can't find half the stuff I know I had either.
The verse on my little plate is really what I want to achieve in this cottage of ours;
The Cottage of Content
And we all know that that is a thing of the heart, not measured by our possessions or riches.
I would be lying if I tried to tell you that I don't take some joy from the things that I possess.

I have, however, been in a place in my life where I thought my days were numbered and I can tell you first hand from that experience that what I had hanging on my walls or what furniture I had in my home didn't mean a thing to me.
It literally disappears in significance.
All that matters then is family, your loved ones, and your relationship with your maker.
So I do try to keep it all in proper perspective.
Frankly I don't know how I got off on that little tangent.  Maybe it was just a reminder  for me!

This is what is beckoning me now.
I still have many flowers to get potted and seeds that need sown.
So I'm off.....
What is it that's calling you today?

  1. Kimberly,

I love that blue, it's like a turquoise color. The cabinet will look good with either color. Pick the color that makes you feel wonderful inside and out.

Today, I am the chauffer to my husband and son. I'll also get caught up on the laundry and some cleaning along with taking care of my injured dog.

  2. I love the blue and think it would be perfect for your cabinet. I hear you-when life is tentative at best nothing in, and of, the world really matters except God,famil and friends and trying to keep your chin up. I have been in those places, too- xo Diana

  3. I think the blue is REALLY pretty, but white with blue accents could be too. Cottage of content...what a perfect feel to strive for. Can't wait to see your finished products as your little glimpses are perfect. Enjoy your day!

  5. That is going to be fabulous painted blue! You are heading in a great direction. Today I just pulled two loaves of bread out of the oven and am getting ready to go outside and hold the ladder for my husband as he works some more on the pergola.

  7. Oh that's a very pretty blue...I think you will do a great job with it. Are you using a chalk paint or regular? I agree, when it gets down to the wire, things of this world will slip rather easily away. In the meantime, we are blessed!

  9. I really like that plate Kimberly. And what a wonderful find in the basement! That old china cabinet will be beautiful once it's painted. The blue is pretty but you could also paint it white on the outside and blue on the inside or vice versa. Just for some contrast. I can see you are having fun setting up house in your new cottage. I found a box of china teacups that I need to do something with. All 29 of them!! They are all over the countertop right now.

  10. We were away for a few days on a little trip, so I have laundry to catch up on and flowers that need some attention. Tomorrow. I took a little nap after we got home this evening.

I love the colors of your inspiration pieces! The cabinet will look wonderful in either white or blue. The color I'd choose would depend on the color of the walls, I think. Hope you show us the after photo!

I wanted to add, too, that I love the House of Content verse. That is what I strive for in my little brick cottage!

  11. My mom has that same china cabinet - I've never seen another one like it before until now! I'd paint the outside a creamy white and the inside in the aqua/blue.

    Cheers!

    Thanks for visiting me!

  12. I really like that color of blue and I think that cabinet will look great that color. I totally agree with you, being so sick you just don't care what anything looks like. That is a good reminder.
To seek what is important. :) Have a lovely day.

  13. That shade of blue is very pretty! I'm sure whatever you come up with will look great because you seem to have a real knack for that sort of thing. As for remembering what really matters, you're right it is not our "stuff." Nice post!

  14. That is a beautiful blue, I think your new to you cabinet is going to be gorgeous in that colour.
The chalk paint might be just what you're looking for.
I must say, the weeds are what has been calling me all week. I have spent many hours this week with "weeding".
