Guinea Pigs

Guinea Pig: a subject of research or testing
country sampler 2007
Would you mind very much if I use you as a guinea pig? I set up a Pinterest page last night and I'm now collecting photos to display on my boards.  I have re-pinned many of them from others sites.

But I've been unable to re pin from my own photo stash. So I'll try to grab them from here!

As you can see, these photos are for my 'Beautiful
Bathrooms' board.

The scanning turned out sort of fuzzy, but I think
one can still appreciate the decorating and design
ideas, fuzzy or not.

This one is my favorite. I love the use of the old kitchen sink in the bathroom. And an old wardrobe just like the one I sold to a neighbor for $25 bucks around fifteen years ago. Ouch! It still hurts...

Such a pretty color was used here. I like the funky old hangers for wall art too.

Okay, I'll bore you no more! Wish me luck on uploading these. My friend, Dawn, at Creative Cain Cabin is working on attaching a Pinterest button for me to this blog. Thank goodness she's being such a good sport about helping me with it. I feel really clueless at times with this tech stuff. Oh well......
It's hard to imagine the weekend is here already.
I hope you enjoy yours!

Household Tip of the Day

With the holiday season upon us we can expect that someone is going to just drop by without calling. You know, to bring us a tray of Christmas cookies
or a holiday gift.  This household tip will not only
give your guest an understanding of why the house
is so messy, but may also award you with a hot supper dish for your poor sickly self.
My own added tip of wisdom:
Keep your housecoat handy to throw on.
It always helps to look the part!
Cheers-Kimberly

Another Simple Christmas Vignette

If you were a follower of mine last year you may remember this simple window vignette I threw together with my antiques medicine bottles.
This year I used the same three bottles, but I added
a little sparkle this time by gluing a vintage Christmas print to a manila tag back and adding glitter.
If you like the tags here that I use you can find them at Karen's post today. She was kind enough to share these and several others. Her blog is The Vintage Bag Lady.
Look at this adorable little puppy dog that showed up for the Thanksgiving holiday at our home. Reece is nearly two and a half years old and he was so..much fun.

Reece looks just like our son did at his age and has the same sweet temperament. Clayton and Lauren are expecting again in February. So who knows, maybe a Valentine's day baby. This will make nine g'children for us! I don't think Tim and I ever would have imagined we'd have so many!

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, I'm feeling a little panicky about Christmas. We've got to make a decision about who to spend it with this year since none of the children will be making it to our home. I'm thinking maybe I should just put all of their names in a bowl and draw one!

Christmas Past

Only two days until Thanksgiving and then after that-let the Christmas decorating begin!

I decided to review my deco from Christmas's past.
Namely last year, since it was my first blogging Christmas to share with everyone.
My blogger friend, Dawn, is having a 'Christmas Decorating on a Budget' party. Now this project was just that. I found two empty jars in my pantry, filled them with pillow batting, then added a couple of Dollar Store trees and plastic figures I already had. Total cost was $2.26 for the trees.
Last year I added them to my holiday hot chocolate tray, but who knows where they'll go this year. I like to mix it up just a little each year, using some of the same things, just in a different way.

I'm off now to party now!

One Project Done...

I am so....glad to be finished with the painting! I really shouldn't complain since I only have
one small wall and one half wall to paint. The rest of the living room is log. But that doesn't stop me from doing it, since I do not like painting. Period!
I always like to display just a few of my favorite old
books.

It was near impossible to get a decent photo of this
Yukon memory wall.  I didn't want to invest in expensive shadow boxes, so I'm using matching
woven baskets for the displays.
This memory box contains an old dog sled team photo, a crueler from the Yukon Brewery, a hand-
made caribou Ulu, and a fungus specimen from my own back yard.

Displayed here are my beaded slippers made by a local Kluane Lake native, another antler, and a
map of Alaska were our youngest son and our DIL
live and we've visited many times in recent years.
And one last wall vignette in the bedroom.
My next project is the halllway. It, too, is painted.
But I need to hang all the family photos yet. With
eight g'kids and another on the way, it won't be hard to fill the walls quickly.

I've heard from our blogger friend, Sherri. Without
going into details, I want to share that she will be
requiring treatments as well as surgery for the cancer. Please continue to pray for her and her family as the journey is just beginning.
She's expressed to me what a comfort it is to know
 we're all praying for her.
Thanks-Kimberly

Busy As A Bee

I've been as busy as a little bee lately.
I've been painting the living room and hallway walls. And then painstakingly trying to decide just what to put back on the walls. This is not an easy task for me. Even when I'm trying to achieve a clean and sparse look, I realize it still looks cluttered!
You know I mentioned I wanted to incorporate a vignette of treasures I collected from the Yukon.
Well, I have done two. One in the bedroom and one
in the living room. I will have pics for you on Thursday and you can tell me what you think.
Tomorrow is an all day visit to town. We are working on the kitchen, so there's a lot of details yet to decide.
Thank you all for your prayers for Sherri. I am waiting to hear from her. I'll keep you posted as
soon as I learn anything.
Blessings-Kimberly

Prayer for a Friend

source
Friends,  will you please join me in prayer for our blogger friend Sherri?
She has been diagnosed with cancer this past week.
Sherri will be meeting Tuesday with her Dr. to get more details. We know right now that she will need
surgery and we'll know after Tuesday whether she'll need chemo also. I know how much it has meant to me to know that you were supporting me in prayer. I hope you'll do the same for Sherri.
Her blog is Little House in Paradise if you would like to pop over and let her know you are thinking of her.
Thanks!

Design Style

Do you have a favorite design style? I'm afraid I
love many different styles. But I don't necessarily
love them for my home.
It's that time of year when I'm stuck in the house
and I begin to notice all kinds of little projects that
I said I was going to do, but never did.
Midwest Living 2007

Like repainting the yellow walls that I knew I
hated the day after I had painted them-2 years ago!
ML 2007
Today I finally painted those walls. Tomorrow I
will work on the hallway. It's a start, ladies!
I can't really put a label on what my design style
is, but I know what I love. Give me old pictures,
antlers, pine cones, birch logs, birds nest, fungus
that I've gathered, old furniture and curtains with
great, big flowers on them! Obviously a lot of natural elements.
Now that I've shared with you my inspiration photos for decorating my home.
Tell me, what things do you love to fill your home with?

Today  is the anniversary of the sinking of the

gales we'll see from the lake today. I'll keep you
posted.
