Julian, What Were You Thinking?

Today while shopping in Wal-Mart with my husband I happened past a center aisle book rack.
I had no reason what so ever to stop there but something caught my eye. It was this.....
Yes, it's a book about  Downton Abbey. How could I resist browsing through its pages?  But do you see who I saw right there with all of our favorite characters?
Second from the left, ladies.
Oh yes, you see her now. It's Shirley Maclaine.
I nearly layed an egg right there in the store.
No! No! This can't be happening to my favorite program for all time. Well, nearly all time.
And that is why I'm asking Julian just what in the world were you thinking!
She's been cast as Cora's mother.
But frankly, I don't think Cora looks too happy about her as a mother. Do you?
Does this look like a happy face?
I don't think the Dowager looks very happy either.
I'm sure you've already gathered that I am not a big fan of Shirley Maclaine as an actress. However, in all fairness I'm going to withold any judgement until I've watched the whole program through.
Right now I'm just counting the days until Season 3 begins on January 6th. And I'm in great hopes that someone gives this evil couple their just rewards this time around! What do you think? Will they continue to get by with all their shenanigans?
I sure hope not!

  1. Oh! I love Downton Abbey! I don't mind Shirley and I already saw a preview and she will definitely add spice! LOL!
I'll be looking for that book...PBS was selling it for like a $200.00 membership. I love PBS but can't afford those prices! I also love Doc Martin....not the shoes and The Midwife show too. Sundays are a real treat on t.v. for me! TFS!

  2. I cannot wait until season 3 comes on!!! I admit I was a little stunned when I read that Shirley Maclaine was cast as Cora's Mother, but I am sure she will be good, My friends in England who are fans say this season is the best yet. So I am sure it will be just awesome. So nice to know you are a fan too.

  3. She isn't one of my favourites either Kimberly. I have never seen the show and am tempted to purchase Seasons 1 and 2 but don't know when I'd ever sit down to watch them. I hear it's an excellent show.

  5. I am not a fan either. I don't think she was a good choice for the cast.

  6. I love Shirley and she was fantastic on Downton Abbey. Excellent casting choice for the character for the unpretentious modern American. I have seen all of season 3. It's outstanding :)

  8. Hmm, well, I've never seen this show so I'm not a good one to ask. I agree with you about Shirley Maclaine, though. I'm not a fan of hers.

  9. Kimberly,

I haven't watched this series what so ever, I hear it's amazing though. Maybe I should try to find it on the computer and watch at least one episode :-)

Update: More tests are being done, won't know more until later.
Thanks for your prayers and support :-) I so appreciate it my friend.

  10. Masterpiece Theater ran a special last week, and Shirley does not look too bad in her role... in fact, she may just make the season! Loved one and two, can't wait to see three.

  12. I saw the first episode of Season Three when I was in the UK in September. I found Shirley to be not at all believable - a bit of a disappointment in a great series!

  14. Don't hate me...but I have access to watching season three. I have watched the first three episodes. So far Shirley was only in the first and I have to say she didn't seem comfortable in the role. So far I am LOVING season three. I did hear a tidbit about NEXT year and a certain WONDERFUL someone will NOT be coming back. I hope it is only a rumor...I would be heartbroken if it was true!!!!

  15. Oh I love that show! I haven't seen season 2 yet. I am waiting for it on Netflix. I am going to check in case I missed it somehow. I don't mind Shirley. Oh, now I am excited for it! Enjoy your day!

  16. Love the show. Agree with your reservations on all counts. I certainly hope that this show doesn't cut into my Once Upon a Time schedule. Someone I know and love is getting a boxed set of the first two seasons for Christmas. I may have to wait for Season three to come out on dvd if all else fails.

  20. Downton Abbey -- seen it all and you will be pleasantly "surprised" and "bothered" and even question some people choices and might end up saying "Oh, my word - how can one live with them self".. just grateful not to have ever been a (kitchenmaid or “skivvy”) -- loaded with endless work..
    Hugs.. Happy Holidays

  22. I have got to watch this! I had never heard of it until there was a news story that the first lady loved it so much she requested to see the next season in advance I am so missing something. Oh, do a post before it starts to remind us and that have not watched it, but want to. I would love to know what it is about and what channel it is on1

  23. My goodness, I didn't even know Shirley M. was still acting. I never like her either. Put me on the short list of those who haven't seen Downton Abbey. I've heard good things about it, so I just might have to check it out.
