Bring on the Snow

This is our g'daughter Starlet. Our daughter, Emily, was over this weekend to visit with her two children.  Fortunately we had more than enough snow for everyone to play in. In fact, we had  so much snowy and blowing weather we weren't sure they would be able to make it here as planned. They did arrive, but a day late.

This is a snow cave Starlet built for her brother, Lambert, to snuggle into. Pretty cozy looking and just his size I'd say.

As soon as Starlet arrived she wanted to get down to the lake to fish! You might remember last time they were here in October and the temperature was in the 40's, Starlet went swimming. I don't believe I have ever seen a child so adventurous, curious and excited about life and all it has to offer as she is. She didn't catch any fish, but she found a treasure trove of snails.

This is the same rocky beach were Starlet was fishing the day before. It's now built up with ice and snow. No shore to be seen anymore!

The thermometer outside our kitchen window right now is reading -14C or 8F. Yes, Baby it's cold outside! This is our typical winter weather for this time of the year here-finally.
I'm thinking now that the kitchen is finished I am ready for a fun project. Maybe a baby blanket for g'baby #9? I'm definitely in the mood to sit myself behind my sewing machine and put that pedal to the metal, ladies.
So what are your plans for this week? Any new projects you're working on? I'll be back to let you know how mine's progressing soon, I hope.
Blessings-Kimberly

  1. Your g.daughter is an outdoorsy type. Sometimes Emma is too. She likes to fish and wants to hunt...but I think she wants to hunt for animals to keep not eat. Stay safe and warm Kimberly. It's a cold windy day here also, about 15 degrees.xoxo,Susie

  2. Oh my how beautiful until you told me the temp! Yikes!! I don't think I would venture out like your granddaughter did. Burrr!! I'm thinking the sewing machine would be calling my name also, plus a great big fire to warm by!

  3. What a cutie! I would love a snow cave if I had to be out in those temps. Yes, a project would be just the thing and nothing that involves painting.

  4. Well enjoy your weather. I always look to see what kind of weather you are having. It just amazes me that it can get so cold. I think it would be nice to be there and listen to the sounds.
    Have a wonderful time.
I got my chicken pen cleaned for this week. That was number one on the list. :)

  5. Awe...that brings back some memories of playing in the snow -- never like playing out in that wet stuff - unless the sun was shining BRIGHT.. Wonderful capture of the snow falling..
So now the kitchen is finished - photos please - wink! My plans for the weekend - you asked - well it's plowing through my dad's scrapbook getting it ready to be put into a book form and I will take breaks for a little knitting..

  6. You have a lot of snow there now Kimberly. It looks like your grandkids had fun playing in it. I remember when our kids would go out and play after supper while their dad cleared the snow from the driveway. They would slide and build snow forts. Good healthy fun! It's cold here too. I'm staying cozy inside. Hugs, Pam

  7. what a pretty name...Starlet? I love the fresh new snow, so pretty. We have had so far a pretty mild January for Alberta. I. AM. OK. With. That.
I think working on a new baby blanket sounds like a nice way to spend some winter hours.

  11. Hi Kimberly, I'm glad you got the snow you've wanted; I'm thankful it left here though. We are in the 40's today but Wed. is predicted to get to the 60's-feels like spring to me. I'm ready for it this year. I just finished cleaning my fridg and also wiping down the pantry. I should be upstairs sewing too but just don't seem to be in the mood right now. Decided to visit bloggy friends instead.
    Hugs, Noreen

So glad to see all your snow. We are getting it also along with the freezing temps. We even lost power due to high winds. I bet your granddaughter had a blast with all that snow:)

  15. Such winter fun! I've been making a mess in my studio room. Made something yesterday and it didn't turn out right. Will try again later this week. And I'm not telling what it is until I get it right, LOL!

  16. I like your little Starlet. She reminds me of her very adventurous grandmother! I love your photos, they're so pretty.
My husband almost got stuck in Thunder Bay again, they got a foot of snow on Saturday and he was stuck on the highway again for several hours.
It was -35 here this morning, that's the fun of living in Canada. Gotta love it!

  18. Think I'll just enjoy the snow pictures from afar. They're pretty, but I'm enjoy my 70 degree weather while here in Florida. It'll go away soon enough when I return to Tennessee!

  20. I love your grand daughters name! What a cutie...and all that snow. How different that would be for me. What kind of a blanket are you going to make? I am going to attempt a rag quilt for my new grandbaby, just as soon as we confirm at the 20 wk. scan that it is indeed a boy. The test is thursday, so we are almost there. Wish I could stop by and see for myself what your planning. Enjoy your day!

  22. Thanks for the snow pictures! She is a little adventuress....that's the way I was when I was young but they just called me "trouble".
I'm under the weather so don't feel like doing much...hopefully it will leave tomorrow and I'll be back to wanting to do something...anything.
