I spent most of the day clearing the yard of small tree shoots that were blocking my view of the lake.

It was so good to get out on this beautiful day, work outside, and feel like I had accomplished something.

And what were you up to today?

 

 

What's In My Cabinet

 

I am participating in Sandi's 'What's in your cabinet' party'. This is a china cabinet we've

had for many, many years. The teapot was a

gift from my MIL when my husband and I first

married, as are some of the tea cups.

This is an almost full view photo of the cabinet.

The top part once had legs that were cut off and

placed on the top of dresser drawers. Where the

china cabinet sits, there would've been a tall mirror

flagged on each side with two smaller drawers.

This actually devalues the piece in the eyes of a

antique dealer. You would think it's uniqueness

would make it more valuable, but that's not the case.

This shot lets you better view the bottom drawers.







The bottom half of the cabinet is a real hodge podge

of glassware and red tranferware dishes, and trinkets. I only use most of it for holiday dinners.

This piece will go to my daughter, along with the

matching dining room table and chairs. I have to

say I'm looking forward to that day. It takes up the

 space where I'd like to have my reading nook! I would have a perfect view of the lake from here.

Oh well, maybe some day.

Photo Slacker

DH and I went for a colors drive yesterday and would you believe this is the only photo I shot?

I was just enjoying the drive so much I didn't want to have Tim stop the car for me to jump out and

snap pictures. Very lazy, I know!

This photo was taken at 6:30 AM Sunday morning.

It's not great, but I couldn't resist a picture of the

moon shining on the lake.

I don't usually promote peoples products or retail

stores, but I bought these cute Mary Engelbreit bags at Target in Kalamazoo for only $1. each.

I also bought this fall journal and four cute cards

with stickers for $1. each. Now to me, that's a bargain. You do have to understand, ladies, I just spent the last five months at a remote resort and

I live in our cabin in the woods the remainder of the time.  So I probably do get a little more

excited about this kind of stuff than most people would!

I'm completely unpacked, but I've got a whole lot of canned goods to hide under the beds tomorrow.  Do any of you do this? Those of us who live in small

 homes have to find the space somewhere.

Our DIL, Lauren is expecting again.

This will be our ninth grandchild!

Secret #2. Guess who Grandson Reece is

going to be for Halloween? Who wouldn't

want to fill this little guys bag with lots of candy?

not to think about all how life is going to

change once his little brother arrives.

all of your prayers. I'm off for a full day of shopping, unpacking next, and then company arrives on Tuesday.

Too Pretty for the Nose

Since I've found two beautiful new hankies to add to

my collection I've been doing Pinterest research for

ideas for their use.

but I still like them.

This hankie quilt is beautiful,  but a little more time and work than I want to commit to right now. Look

to make originally for myself.

This appears to be a combination of fabric and children hankies. As my blogger friend, Pamela,

from Playing With My Camera pointed out it's

going to take a lot of collecting for a whole curtain!

Then Pamela gave me the idea to start with a valance.

This will actually work well for my bathroom. I have a beautiful white shower curtain I've never used yet. Topping it with a hankie valance sounds

like a good plan. You see-two minds are better than

one. Thanks for the advice, Pamela!

I have only one more day here with Mom and Dad.

The time I've had to spend with them has been so precious. It's going to be hard to leave, so say

a little prayer for me, please.

Shopping For The Birds

I'm visiting with my Mom & Dad now, so I displayed this birdie treasure on one of her

shelves for you to see.

The 1st one shown was $1.00. This one was $4.00

I've no plans for this yet, but for four bucks I wasn't

letting this one slip through my fingers.

This is an old tablecloth. I just loved the colors and the rose pattern. I thought  Spring pillows for the

bedroom maybe. Who knows what I'll finally come up with for it's use, but for one dollar, it was coming home with me.

I also bought two beautiful hankies to start a collection for a possible shower curtain. Oh my, I just realized I'd have to live to be 100 to finish all

these projects-wish me luck my friends!







 

Kids, Kids, Kids...

After taking off Friday the first stop on my trip was to my daughters home to visit for a couple of days.

We went hiking, shopping, and to Mickey D's for lunch. It was a short visit, but their Papa and I will

go back in October to visit the Pumpkin Patch. Yeah!

Next it was on to my sis's where I got to spend time

with my great niece and nephews. These adorable

twins were preemies and will be having heart surgery in January. It's hard to imagine, they look

so healthy. But if you hold them  against you, you

 can  feel their hard and irregular heart beats.

This is sweet Kaleena. She is such a beauty!

And this is Adain, the twins older brother. He loves

his snacks. Notice me and my sis in the mirror?

She's such a shorty!

On The Road Again

I'm sure many of you are wondering why a woman

that's spent the last month crying about how she

couldn't wait to get back to her home, is now leaving to go on the road again.

It's true I missed my home place, but more importantly I've missed seeing my parents and

my grandchildren more than our home.

 My mother had fallen while

I was away and had to enter a nursing home. My

father is ninety five now and although he still gets

about and still stays active he is becoming frail too.

So I'm at my daughters to

spend a couple of days with her family, then on my way to Iowa to see my folks and brother and sisters.

Many of you will remember the garage that went

from this.......

To this sweet cottage for my MIL last year. Tim has

now painted the front entry and is going to make

shutters for all of the windows while I'm away. To

tell the truth ladies, the guy has a honey-do list a

mile long! But they are all projects he 'wants' to do.

Honest!







  As for my own projects, they'll have to wait until I get home. Here are the sheets I've collected so far

for patchwork curtains. I'm thinking I may need

a few more, so wish me luck while I'm on the road in finding some.

Fortunately I have a sister that loves visiting the

re-sale shops as much as I do!

I hope you're all enjoying the cooler weather that

autumn is bringing. We're having cooler nights, but

warm days here. How has it been in your neck of the woods?

 

 

A Card Party at Vee's

I decided my theme for this card party will be

'Animals of the Yukon'.

These wood buffalo were technically in BC, but you

weave back and forth between BC and the Yukon on the southern part of the Alaskan Hwy.

A Favorite Thing

 

I am joining Claudia at Mockingbird Hill Cottage

for her A Favorite Thing party. This shelf was part

of an old mirrored cabinet that I was given from my

late father in-laws garage.

I'm afraid the color isn't quite true on the photo. It

is definitely more of a pale robin egg blue. It holds

my ceramic bird collection, which I plan to continue

growing. But I'm cheap! The most I've paid was $6.

for one.

Anyway, it's a 'favorite' thing because I think of my

FIL whenever I see it. And of course, I love my little birdies too.

This Is Me!

This is me today. I'm looking a little mean. My tongue is hanging out from hunger. Food, food,

someone please give me some food! Why, you

ask, does she need food? Did she lose her shirt

in the Yukon and have no money now for food?

Oh no my friends, something far dumber and

stupider than that. I read about this diet......

Yes at nearly 57 years of age you would think

I would be far beyond falling for a 'lose five

pounds in three days' diet. But apparently I'm

not. It's a Military diet. I guess for anyone that is overweight and wants to enter the services, but are

too heavy according to the superiors that be.

If I'd been thinking clearly I might have taken into

consideration the age of one hoping to enter the military. Somewhere close to forty years younger

than me. Yah, I remember those days when the fat

just melted away just because I dreamed it would.

Not so today, my friends.

See those bananas?I get one of those every day.

But, I have to tell you the real reason I thought this diet might work was because I get to eat a cup of

ice cream every day!

You can only guess what's going to be in my dreams tonight. This.....

And this.

Please tell me I'm not dreaming and I can really have this.

 

Now this is going to be  me tomorrow after I wake up and remember

that I'm not going to be re-enlisting in the military.

Bye-Bye Diet.  

I'm really so much happier now!
