Are You Needing Inspiration?

Every so often I go through my 'favorites' listing and clean it out by deleting old stuff or topics
I'm no longer interested in. It seemed to me this was the best place for me to start this new year's
de-cluttering.  In doing so I ran across several cute projects I'd saved for inspiration. I may never
get these projects accomplished but I thought one of them might be of interest to you, my friends.
So here we go......
Let me begin with this beautiful doily hanging lamp shade.
I believe this is done by blowing a round balloon. Using liquid
starch to shape, then after it dries, popping the balloon and inserting
a hanging lite kit. My Aunt would use sugar water to shape her
doilies into bowls. But please experiment before taking my word
on this.

My same Aunt has also done this project before only using muslin.
I will not insult your intelligence by telling you how this is done!
And, oh my, how I love these curtains. I must start collecting old sheets
to make this. I see a sheet patch here that I already have in my
linen closet right now and , unfortunately, some that I had gotten
rid of years ago. How about you? See any you've had in the past?

Honestly, I don't know if I like this or find it a little creepy. I do think it could
work as a spark for using ones own cast offs in a creative way.
As for myself, I'm not allowing myself to start any new projects until I get
myself better organized around here.
What is your priority for this new year? I'd love to know what you've
resolved to tackle first. Remember Rome wasn't built in a day-that's
what I keep telling my self!

  1. Well, you can't really be too organized, right?

  2. I don't think I'll ever be organized. I might be a lost cause in that area.
P.S. The tin can dolls....a little creepy. :)

  3. I love the patch work curtains. I have the perfect room for them. I am a pretty organized person, but with my new blog I am hoping to be organized and come up with some good ideas for it.

  4. Oh goodness, the dolls on the fence thingy was scaring me for a minute but the longer I looked the more I thought I love it. Organized? Thought about it a couple of times lately.

  6. What fun things here. My hubby's grandmother used to make those sugar doiley things too. And, I do find the dolls just a tad creepy!;>) I am going to start sorting through stuff this year and purging...gotta do it...hate to do it....MUST do it~ Good luck to both of us~ xo Diana

  7. Isn't it great to do some cleaning out from time to time?
Your projects are always an inspiration. I plan to try to be a little more creative for my blog. Not sure that anyone has seen that side of me yet.
    Have a wonderful day...

  8. I am going to try to get more of quilting projects finished, lol. Hopefully!!!

  9. The doll thing is creative and creepy at the same time!
Love, love, love the curtains! I used to do needlework quite a bit until I was busy raising my kids and totally stopped. I do it a bit here and there, but not like I want to. This year I plan to get back into finishing a counted cross stitch picture that I started two years ago. There are so many things that I'd like to do, but that picture will be my focus till it's done!

  10. The curtains made from old sheets are really pretty! The dolls on the fence are right up my creep factor alley. LOL

  11. I really want a new shower curtain. I may try making some with old sheets ! I love those curtains! Thanks for the inspiration

  12. Those are so inspiring for me to return to my de-cluttering so I can have time to play!

  13. Oooohhh, I think that wall of dolls is a bit scary!

Organized? What's that? I might want to go there.....

  14. I like seeing pictures to get inspiration. I don't know if I would really like that last picture. Old dolls kind of creep me out. I do like the lamp shades and I did do one in burlap. I liked it but my family did not. My family is funny like that. :(
I have lots of ideas to do this year some I didn't get around to doing last year. But you know how life happens. :)
You are already off to a great start.

  15. Interesting inspiration pictures! I vote creepy on the dolls. Oye!

My first place to start it to defrock the camper of my Christmas decorations and stow them in the basement. But alas--today is quite cold and I don't wanna go outside to get the decor box! The wind is supposed to subside and the weather get warmer tomorrow, so tomorrow it is! :)

Spending today with hubby who is on vacation...

  16. I love the lamp shade and curtains, they are just darling. Thanks for sharing:)

  17. I love the sheet curtain, it has given me an idea as what to do with all the old hankies I've collected. It might be fun to make curtains out of them. I have to agreed with the creepy dolls. I think I'll pass on that ideal. Organize - de-clutter that is a life long project for me!

  18. I'm still working on my Christmas quilt - oh well, it will be ready for next year!

  20. I an runnning to my closet to check on my bed linens! Those curtains are soooo cute!
Oh yes... my minds has been inspired.
    Good Job Kimberly!

  21. My step-daughter just showed me the doily one. I thought it was beautiful. She's going to give it a whirl. Why, yes, I did have one of those sheet patterns...the one with mostly white and a small flower.

  22. I love the patchwork sheet curtains--they look so light and airy and cheerful. :-)

  23. I am tackling the organizing head on! It's my first priority in the new year and plan to blog about it too! I guess that's something we all have in common.

  24. Love the curtains and I do see a patch I recognize.. grin..
Decluttering figures very high in my want to do list..
Good luck with that, my husband says..

  25. Hi Kimberly,
I love that doily lampshade and the rag lampshade! The curtains are adorable!
Would you believe that we started on our first project of this year yesterday! We are redoing my kitchen table. We have begun the stripping process, the top is done, but the sides of the top will take stripper to get clean, so I will work on that tomorrow. It's supposed to warm up to +6! Can you believe it? So I will be able to get something done, as this is in our unheated garage. It will be done by this time next week and I am very excited about it.
The dolls on the wall, yeah, a little creepy.
    Hugs, Cindy

  26. Those curtains are cute!
Just came by and want to wish you a Happy New Year.

  27. I have started de-cluttering my home. My daughter told me I had to much stuff. I looked around and realized she's right! I loved the curtains too. I have a spare bedroom I want to decorate this year. That is a great idea for the curtains! Great post!

  28. Aww..such fun ideas. I love love love the curtains. Oh where could I put them?
    Happy New Year Kimberly.

  29. Love, love the tied lampshade...In fact, I think I will pin it as soon as I'm done here. I'm in desperate need of some pretty lampshades and they are hard to find!
I'm a bit obsessed with the whole vintage sheet craze and I am kicking myself for getting rid of my old ones. Who knew?
And....the scary dollies? I'm pretty sure I'll be dreaming about them tonight. Thanks for that.

  30. Kimberly, I too have way to many unfinished projects. Have vowed not to buy another quilt kit or fabric till I make what I have. Love the shade. I have some of that starch. Might give it a try for Valentines. Also love the curtains. Now for the doll fence, I'm voting a bit creepy. The owner of Star Mill loves doll parts. He's see's them as something that needs to be saved. I'm sure he would love this. He even has a birdhouse with a doll arm sticking out.

  31. Great inspiration! Thanks for sharing. Glad I stopped by! I am your newest follower! Hugs, Diane

  32. Organized? Not around here. Love those old sheet curtains!
