Etta James - At Last - Lyrics
Farewell Etta
This is one of my 'old time' favorites. One of the songs I heard on the
radio station my mom would listen to when I was a kid. Funny how
a sound brings back such nostalgic thought.
My mom is pretty much chair-ridden these days and her world has
become very small. She's the very best of mothers and I happy for
any memories from those days when she was so full of life, though
bittersweet. I have to say I've come to the conclusion getting old can
be a heavy cross for some to bear. Please enjoy the video.

Sorry your mom is struggling. It's a beautiful song.
ReplyDeleteOh how I LOVE this song...My youngest son and his wife played this song as their first dance song...I remember the looks on their faces like it was yesterday...soo sweet.
ReplyDeleteSorry your mom is not doing well. I soo can identify with watching your parents age. My poor mom is still fighting it all soo.
Have a good week-end! HUGS
Sorry too hear your Mum isn't doing too well... hold on to those precious memories...
ReplyDeleteYour parting comments are the very reason that I am so intrigued by Billy Graham's new book on aging. In his 90s, I figured he knows something about it. What has always impressed me is that we are growing older even as we are more fragile and weak, still having to cope with so much. It seems as if one needs to be strong. Guess that it'll have to be a spiritual strength and not a physical one. I, too, remember this song and have always loved it. Godspeed, Etta!
ReplyDeleteI've got her CD...love her. Sorry your mom is not well. It's hard when we get old. My Mom is almost 89 and in the same boat.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry that your mum is not well. Every moment with her is precious I'm sure. I love that 'old' song! Blessings, Pamela
ReplyDeleteHi there, I love this song and thanks for the video clip. My dad loved music so much and I well remember him singing all the time-probably why I do. You are blessed to have your mom and I'm not sure what is harder-to lose your mom suddenly when you are young or to watch them linger so helplessly. Aging is tough.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed weekend dear one.

That was lovely. Our parents' generation is so tied to music, I think, because of the newness of everyone having a radio and records during the war years. They all danced in one another's living rooms, mess halls, USO and pubs. Funny, but just over Christmas a friend gave me a collection of Etta James on a CD.
ReplyDeleteI'll keep your mom in my prayers. This song by Etta James is a classic :) :) It's hard when your parents aren't doing well.I learned that lesson two weeks ago when my dad suffered heart failure. He's doing well now,...it's an absolute miracle..but really hard, when you see your parents in such a helpless state. However, my dad and I both have very strong faith in Jesus Christ...and God has given us the strength to weather this difficult time, when we had nothing left ;) :) I'll be praying for your mom and the rest of your family :) Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kimberly, I heard today about Etta James' death. I loved her voice and music also...
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your Mom. It's sad to watch the ones we love so much get old and have lots of problems. My Mom died in 1991 at the age of 91... She lived a pretty good life --but the last year or so was rough...
Bless you, Kimberly. I know that it hurts.
Hugs,
Betsy
I love this song, too. I'm sorry you are going through this difficult time with your mother. I lost my mother too soon to a horrible disease, then watched later as my dad succumbed to dementia and passing at the age of 91. It really just hurts so much to see them helpless and hurting and knowing that you can't make it all better. And knowing that, too soon, they won't be here at all. (((hugs)))
ReplyDeleteI loved etta jame's music and much of that era.
ReplyDeleteAging if we could all age like Betty White that would wonderful but alas we can't. It is so hard to watch our parents struggle.
Cathy
Will say a prayer for your Mom, praying she can find some joy even from the chair :-)
ReplyDeleteHugs!!
lovely, I wish for your mum pain free happy days,
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful song. I'm sorry to hear about your Mom. I understand, I'm struggling with my Mom too.
ReplyDeleteKimberly, You have made me remember my mom singing while she was cooking. It was rare, but I think she may have been happy then. I am sorry about your mom, it hurts the children, to see how our parents' ablities deminish. Smiles to you,Susie(She Junks)
ReplyDeleteI loved the video, Kimberly.. Reminds me of my childhood, too..
ReplyDeleteSo glad you have such a dear memory..
God bless...
I know how difficult it is to watch a parent get older. Hugs to you, Kimberly. Having good memories is indeed a wonderful thing. This is a beautiful song. Hearing it brings good memories for me too.
ReplyDeleteThis is my shower song. Yep, I admitted it! I'm glad this song evokes happier memories for you.
ReplyDeleteAhh, Etta! God rest her soul - she is singing with Ella, Billie and the rest of the angel choir now.
ReplyDeleteI will keep your mom in my prayers - it is so hard watching our mothers start to fade away. My mom lived to 93, but I think she would have preferred to go sooner. She never stopped being a gift to us.
Bless you, Kimberly!
I love that song too...
ReplyDeleteOn getting old. I agree with you. My own mom contributed to the care of her mother together with her sisters. Her mom was bedridden and actually fairly demanding. She passed away in her early 90's. My mom was in her early 70's and tired...and passed away within a year.
So...yes..it is a cross to bear. My mom often said that she hoped she would not live to be like her mom with no quality of life. She certainly was still enjoying her life and I often think of her saying that.
That song is in my past also, my father was quite a music lover. - I'm sorry that your mother is in this state now..it is very hard to see our loved ones failing, so very hard. xo
ReplyDeletelove this song...my mom also struggles with her mobility it is a helpless feeling sometimes all we can do is pray
