Things-They are a changing

A little over a year ago my dear father in-law passed away. And after much prayer and deliberation my    mother in-law, also dear, decided she would like to spend most of her time living with us here on the lake.
The only problem is that our home is not quite large enough for all of us! But we have a solution...........

Now I know this doesn't look like much now, but we've drawn up some pretty cute (my words, not my  husbands) floor plans. My mother in-law would like it  to be  an open style- like a little resort camp.
We've decided the only walls  in my mother in-laws "camp" are going to be for the WR. Open living at it's
best! There is one slight problem though.

Our garage is where we store everything. Well that's not entirely true. The sides of our woodshed are
packed to the hilt too. But you get the point. Something has to give before this garage (graj, if you're
Canadian like my husband) is converted into a sweet home for his mother to live in. So I spent a good
deal of time yesterday morning going through all of those boxes trying to decide what I could possibly
    live without.
After my husband saw that this whole process was going way too slow for his liking, he combined the
wood from two of the sheds into just one and voila'-I didn't have to get rid of anything. Yet, that is!
So tomorrow we head to the lumber yard and the fun begins. I will keep you up-dated, of course!
     Until tomorrow,

  2. That is so kind of you to help your mother in law in her time of need. I'm sure she will be very content there. You have a major job ahead of you and it'll be fun to see this garage made over. P.S. I love the log house in there. Have a wonderful day!

  3. When we built our cabin we pre planned for an in-law and put a whole apartment in our basement. Right now my teen age son uses it. Your MIL will love it I'm sure. Wondering if she will have a kitchen also or share yours with you. I can't wait to see the progress:) Keep us updated as you progress.

  4. Oh, I think it's going to be sweet! I can't wait to see the changes. The boxes remind me too much of our recent move and the 2 giant trips to the dump we made. Cleansing and traumatic at the same time. Good luck with the sorting.

  5. Kim, I got the cute bag and other goodies in yesterdays' mail...LOVE them all! The bag is so unique, can't wait to show it off~ no one will have one like it! And the little sock purse is too cute, love the towel holder too.. you are so sweet to add surprises. What a big heart you have to have your mother in law with you and now making a home for her close by. The idea of a open plan is a good one, our whole first floor is like that and it's wonderful. Cozy is good, it's really how all homes should feel. Good luck with the plans and all the hard work ahead of you guys. If I lived close I'd help you pare down that garaj...I want the Americana painted bird house!!!

  10. So are you putting your stuff or your MIL in the woodshed? Just kidding. ;-) I think it's sweet that you are having your MIL come out to live with you, while at the same time allowing her to have a place of her own. The storage garage will be really cute when you convert it into a little cottage. Can't wait to see the pictures.

  12. She must be so excited! I'm sure that you'll create a lovely little cottage right there and all will be summer perfection. How nice of your hubby to take over for you and come up with a working plan.
